Hakuna Matata by 27_87

Rodrigo Flores-Roux, 2025

The founder of 27_87 Romy Kowalevski, grabbed the attention with a single message: “Bananas are taking the stage – vanilla is over!”  and presented a memorable fruity-floral-amber: Hakuna Matata is a blend of banana and white florals, supported by musk over radiant and warm amber-vanilla base.

Building a natural structure around a banana, the perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux based the white floral heart on jasmine and a touch of orange blossom and broom absolutes, enhancing the white florals’ honeyed aspect.
The fruity top is also connected to the caramelized sugar and vanilla undertones and melts into a glowing, gold vanilla-amber base.

The working name for the fragrance was Musa paradisiaca, the botanical name for banana, which indeed is the star of Hakuna Matata:

Remember those traditional sweets, spongy bananas enveloped in chocolate?
As a child, I used to peel the chocolate and ate it first.

If chocolate is removed (and there is no trace of it in the perfume) – there you go: Hakuna Matata banana!

In a vast sea of all imaginable gourmand iterations, this banana enveloped in honeyed flowers makes sense, smells interesting and stands out.

Hakuna Matata is balanced to be honeyed but not too sweet and wearable for those not particularly fond of gourmand notes. The new 27_87 perfume will bloom in the warmer part of the year.
